Manual DM Queue vs Auto-DM: Which Should I Use?

When creating a campaign, you choose between two DM modes. Here is the difference and our recommendation.

Manual DM Queue (Recommended):

DMs are queued and wait for your approval before being sent

You see each DM, the commenter's username, and their comment before deciding

You can approve, edit, or reject each DM individually

You get email/dashboard notifications when new DMs are queued (if enabled)

Safer for your Reddit account because you control everything

Default DM delay: 5 minutes between DMs after approval

Auto-DM:

DMs are sent automatically after the configured delay, with no approval needed

Faster but riskier since you cannot review messages before they go out

You can still unapprove a DM before it is sent if the delay timer has not passed yet

Default DM delay: 15 minutes (longer for safety - can be configured in campaign settings)

Our Recommendation: Start with Manual DM Queue. It gives you full control and helps you learn what kind of comments are worth responding to. Once you are comfortable and your Reddit account has a solid history, you can switch to Auto-DM for specific campaigns where you are confident in the audience.

You can change between modes at any time in your campaign settings by clicking the Manage button under a campaign.
